WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The 25th-ranked UW-Stevens Point wrestling finished on the opening day of the 24th annual Budd Whitehill Duals hosted by Lycoming College 1-1, winning its opening dual against The College of New Jersey 25-12 before falling to seventh-ranked SUNY-Cortland 21-16.

Lance Fabry (Ashwaubenon, WI/Ashwaubenon) gave the Pointers an early lead against 27th-ranked TCNJ, but three straight decision victories helped give the Lions the lead. The Pointers responded with victories by Ben Strobel (Neenah, WI/Neenah), Jordan Schulte (Mosinee, WI/Mosinee) and a pin by Ryan Conat (New London, WI/New London) to pull back in front. Victories by Dustin Wozniak (Stanley, WI/Stanley-Boyd) and Matt Cuadra (Oshkosh, WI/West) to close out the match and give the Pointers the victory.

In the second match of the day, UWSP again took an early lead thanks to victories by Fabry and Joe Mileski (Gladstone, MI/Gladstone). The Red Dragons responded with wins at 141 and 149 to pull in front. Strobel, Conat and Cuadra added victories down the stretch but it was not enough as the Pointers fell 21-16.

UW-Stevens Point will return to action on Saturday with a match-up against Thiel College. Action gets underway at 9 a.m.
