Pointers roll past Blue Devils 71-56

MENOMONIE, Wis. – Reigning Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Athlete of the Week Tyler Tillema (Randolph, WI/Randolph) scored a team-high 21 point and led four Pointers in double figures as the 15th-ranked UW-Stevens Point men's basketball team rolled to a 71-56 victory over UW-Stout on Wednesday evening in Johnson Fieldhouse.

UW-Stevens Point held an early six-point lead, 8-2, before Stout cut the deficit to just one at 10-9 with 12:51 remaining in the opening half. Stevens Point quickly answered to push the lead back to a comfortable six-point margin and went on to lead by as many as 14 down the stretch and took a 36-22 advantage into halftime.

In the second half, the Pointers quickly built their largest lead of the night, 44-24, over the opening minutes of the half.

The Blue Devils (5-10, 0-6 WIAC) chipped away at the lead and pulled to within eight points, 48-40, with just over 11 minutes remaining in the game.

A Jordan Giordana (Kaukauna, WI/Kaukauna) three-pointer quickly pushed the lead back to double digits and the Pointers remained in control from there, cruising to the 15-point victory, 71-56.

T. Tillema added four steals and three rebounds to his 21-point performance while Jordan Brezinski (Muskego, WI/Muskego) chipped in with 13, Giordana with 12 and Dan Tillema (Randolph, WI/Randolph/Minnesota-Duluth) added 11. Brezinski and D. Tillema each collected a team-best six rebounds.

Stout's Alex Oman led all scorers with 23 points.

UW-Stevens Point (12-3, 5-1) returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 14 with a 5 p.m. match-up at UW-La Crosse.
