OSHKOSH – The UW-Stevens Point volleyball team split a pair of games on Wednesday evening, defeating WIAC foe UW-Oshkosh 3-0 before falling in the nightcap 3-0 to Elmhurst College. The loss in the nightcap snaps the Pointers five match winning streak to open the season.

The Pointers as a team hit .247 in the day's opening match to win in straight sets 25-23, 25-15, 25-17. Christina Brinkman (Bristol, WI/Westosha Central) led the way with 15 kills on 27 attempts and Morgan Bartkowiak (Slinger, WI/Slinger) chipped in seven kills and four service aces. Alexis Hartman (Deer Park, IL/Lake Zurich) recorded 24 assists while Ally Groth (Germantown, WI/Germantown) had a team-best 16 digs.

In the second game of the triangular, the Pointers stumbled for the first time this season, falling in straight sets 25-14, 25-17, 25-22.
Sarah Wildish (Menomonee Falls, WI/Menomonee Falls) had a team-best nine kills in the second match while Brinkman added eight. Hartman recorded 19 assists and four blocks, two solo and two assisted.
UW-Stevens Point (5-1) returns to action Friday and Saturday, Sept. 9-10, at the Augsburg Tournament in Minneapolis. There the Pointers will face St. Thomas, Northwestern (MN) and host Augsburg.
