SOUTH BEND, Ind. – The UW-Stevens Point women's cross country team managed a 14th-place showing at the 2011 Notre Dame Cross Country Invitational. UWSP was one of just three NCAA Division III schools invited to the prestigious event.
Runners battled tough conditions all day, as temperatures dipped into the low 50s and winds blew at 20-30 MPH, with top gusts reaching 40 MPH and above. Due to severe rain in the area over the last week, the course was extremely wet, with soft spots throughout.
Kelly Haen (Kaukauna, WI/Kaukauna) finished as the lead Pointer on the afternoon, finishing 34th with a time of 18:37.
Elsewhere, freshman
Julia Colling (Maplewood, MN/North) finished 69th with a time of 19:21,
Annie Olson (Stillwater, MN/Stillwater) finished 81st with a time of 19:31,
Kelsey Laska (Roscoe, IL/Hononegah) finished 93rd with a time of 19:48 and
Abby Reynolds (Windlake, WI/Warterford Union) finished 108th with a time of 20:14 to round out the top-five finishers.
The Pointers return to action on October 8 with a race at Lawrence University in Appleton.
