STEVENS POINT – On a rain-soaked afternoon, UW-Stevens Point's
Jessica Ruch (Fond du Lac, WI/Fond du Lac) tallied her first career hat trick, scoring three times and added two assists as the Pointer women's soccer team rolled to a 6-0 victory over UW-Superior.
Angela Gallow (Menasha, WI/Menasha) put the Pointers on the board at the nine minute mark of the match, scoring off a pass from Ruch. UWSP would take the 1-0 lead into the half.
In the second half the Pointers offense rebounded from its slow start, as Ruch struck at the 50 minute mark and again at the 54 minute mark to extend the lead to 3-0.
Gallow matched Ruch's goal total with her second strike of the game at the 56 minute mark, pushing the lead to 4-0.
Ruch completed her hat trick in the 64th minute, assisted by
Lauryn Semling, pushing the lead to 5-0. The final goal of the day came off the boot of
Kim Jobke (Menomonee Falls, WI/Sussex Hamilton), who sent home a Ruch pass for the game's sixth score.
Brittany Marx (Washburn, WI/Washburn) tallied two saves on the afternoon, stopping the only two shots the Yellowjackets offense could muster against the UWSP defense.
The Pointers (6-2, 2-0 WIAC) return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 28 with a road contest at UW-La Crosse. Kick-off is set for 7 p.m.
