Jessica Ruch (Fond du Lac, WI/Fond du Lac) scored a goal and added an assist for the Pointer women's soccer team as UW-Stevens Point extended its winning streak to three games with a 3-2 victory over the Knights of Carleton College on Sunday afternoon.
The Pointers struck first as
Sammy Greer (Rubicon, WI/Hartford) struck quickly for the second straight game, giving the Pointers a 1-0 advantage just 2:39 in. Ruch chipped in with her first goal of the 2011 season at the 28 minute mark, scoring unassisted, to give UWSP the 2-0 advantage early on.
Carleton's Ellie Wilson answered with the Knight's first goal of the game at the 35:32 mark, cutting the UWSP lead back down to one.
In the second half,
Kim Jobke (Menomonee Falls, WI/Sussex Hamilton) put the Pointers back in front by two, with a kick-in off a pass from Ruch at the 46:18 mark.
The Knight's again cut the Pointers lead to just one, this time as Marlena Hartman-Filson scored in the game's 70th minute.
The Pointer defense held strong the rest of the day to give UWSP the victory by the final of 3-2.
Brittany Marx (Washburn, WI/Washburn) tallied three saves on the afternoon for her third win of the season.
UW-Stevens Point (3-1) continues a stretch of seven straight home contests on Wednesday, Sept. 14 when they host Edgewood College in a nonconference match-up beginning at 4:30 p.m. at the Point Soccer Bowl.
