STEVENS POINT-The UW-Stevens Point baseball team (30-8, 20-4 WIAC) used a two game sweep over UW-Stout (12-28, 6-18 WIAC) on Saturday to take the WIAC conference championship outright at University Field.

For the first time since 2002, the Pointer baseball team can call themselves outright conference champions.
Sean Gerber (Stoughton, WI/Stoughton) hit a walk-off single in the bottom of the ninth to score Dan Douglas (East Troy, WI/East Troy) that would give the Pointers a 3-2 victory in game one. The hit turned out to be Gerber's only hit of the day, but it was the biggest one of the game.
Cody Koback (Plover/SPASH) hit his seventh home run of the season while pitching seven innings for the Pointers and allowed only one earned run. Koback struck out four batters and allowed just six hits.
Ryan Iverson (Eau Claire, WI/Eau Claire North) picked up the win for the Pointers to improve his record to 4-0, as he pitched two shutout innings to end the game. Iverson only allowed one hit.
The Blue Devils were led by Ben Yaucher, who finished two for four with one RBI.
The Pointers bats heated up in game two as they came out scoring five runs in the first inning and added three more in the second, to give them a 9-6 victory and improve their winning streak to 11 games.
Dan Douglas (East Troy, WI/East Troy) and Sean Gerber (Stoughton, WI/Stoughton) each recorded three hits a piece for the Pointers. Douglas also scored three runs while Gerber finished with two RBIs.
Justin Jirschele (Clintonville, WI/Clintonville) finished the game with two hits and led the Pointers with three RBIs. Cody Koback (Plover/SPASH) also finished with two hits as he scored a run and added an RBI of his own.
Zach Wendorf (Merrill, WI/Merrill) got the win for the Pointers, his first of the season, as he threw five innings and allowed just three runs. Wendorf struck out four batters and allowed eight hits.
Ryan Iverson (Eau Claire, WI/Eau Claire North) again helped seal the deal for the Pointers picking up his ninth save of the season, shutting down the Blue Devils in the ninth.
Greg Smolinski and Jesse Brockman led UW-Stout as they combined to go seven of 10, finishing with two runs and two RBIs between the two of them.
The eight Pointer seniors were also honored between games for all of their accomplishments as Pointers.
The 30-win Pointers will now host the WIAC Conference Tournament next weekend, May 13th and 14th. The tournament will host the top three teams in the conference and the games will begin next Friday at 10:00 am at University Field. The Pointers will take the field at 1:00 pm against the winner of the first game.
