STEVENS POINT – The 12th-ranked UW-Stevens Point baseball team belted out 23 hits and scored 21 runs on their way to a two game sweep of the 14th-ranked Titans of UW-Oshkosh on Wednesday afternoon at University Field. The pair of victories gives UWSP the season series victory, 3-1.
Scott Williams (Baraboo/Baraboo) set the tone in game one on the mound, as he fanned five batters and scattered five hits over eight innings to earn his seventh victory of the season. Williams also took full advantage of some stellar defense behind him as the Pointers turned five double plays.
Offensively Sean Gerber (Stoughton, WI/Stoughton) went 3-for-4 with four RBIs and Justin Jirschele (Clintonville, WI/Clintonville) went 4-for-5 with two RBIs and three runs scored.
The Pointer bats stayed hot in game two as well in support of Cody Koback (Plover/SPASH)'s efforts on the mound. The Pointers tallied nine hits and plated 10 runs to secure the run-rule shortened victory.
Jirschele finished the game 2-for-2, a two-run home run in the first and a three-run shot in the third.
Koback went the distance, scattering five hits and struck out eight to earn his fifth victory of the season.
Jirschele finished the day 6-of-7 with a double, two home runs and seven RBIs. Gerber drove in five runs going 3-for-8 including a home run in game one.
UW-Stevens Point (21-8, 12-4 WIAC) returns to action with a weekend series on Saturday and Sunday, April 30-May 1 with a four game set against UW-Platteville. Both days' action begins at Noon in Platteville.
