Pointers Plate 33 in Two Game Sweep of Edgewood

MADISON – The UW-Stevens Point baseball team broke out the bats in their Wisconsin debut Wednesday afternoon, scoring 33 runs in a two game sweep of the Eagles of Edgewood College, winning by scores of 14-4 and 19-1. Both games were just seven innings. 

The Pointers tallied five runs in the first and tacked on three in the fourth , fifth and sixth innings to cruise to the 10 run victory. 

Scott Williams (Baraboo/Baraboo) went the distance for the Pointers, throwing seven innings of seven hit ball, allowing four runs, three earned while striking out eight. 

Max Mittelstaedt (Oshkosh, WI/Oshkosh North) led the way offensively with three hits while Justin Jirschele (Clintonville, WI/Clintonville) scored four runs and had a team-high three RBI. Jared Surman (Kimberly/Kimberly), Mittelstaedt, Kevin Thomas (Oshkosh/Oshkosh West) and Steve Considine (Portage/Portage) each tallied two RBI. 

In game two the offense for the Pointers stayed red hot including a six run sixth inning to add to a 10 run advantage. 

Joel Delorit (Sturgeon Bay/Southern Door) tallied the victory for the Pointers, allowing just three hits in five innings of work, recording three strikeouts. Cain Trunkel (Neillsville, WI/Neillsville) pitched the sixth inning in relief, allowing Edgewood's only run. 

Cody Koback (Plover/SPASH) led the way offensively finishing the game 3-for-6 with five RBI while Luke Behm (Waupaca, WI/Waupaca) added three RBI after going 2-for-2 with two doubles. 

No. 9 UW-Stevens Point (8-3) is next scheduled to take the field on Saturday, April 9 when they host UW-Whitewater in a four game series at University Field. First pitch is scheduled for Noon.
