St. Olaf Box Score
AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The UW-Stevens Point baseball team closed out its annual southern swing with a split, notching a 12-4 win against Southern Maine before falling to St. Olaf 10-6.
In the day's opener the Pointers recorded 16 hits as a team, plating 12 runs. Individual highlights included Max Mittlestaedt who finished the game 3-for-4 with a double and three RBI. Eric Fritz (Custer/SPASH) also collected three hits, scoring three runs. Cody Koback (Plover/SPASH) added two hits of his own including a double, and scored four runs.
A mix of five pitchers combined to help the Pointers win including Tyler Flood, Max Frederick, Casey Barnes (Mequon, WI/Homestead), Brad Stroik and Mitch Beau (Fond du Lac, WI/St. Mary Springs). Stroik picked up the victory, going 3.1 innings of one hit ball, striking out three.
In the nightcap the Pointers held a 6-3 lead on the Oles heading into the seventh before surrendering seven unanswered runs over the final three innings, falling 10-6.
Dan Douglas (East Troy, WI/East Troy) finished the game 3-for-4 with an RBI and Justin Jirschele (Clintonville, WI/Clintonville) and Jared Surman (Kimberly/Kimberly) each tallied two hits in the loss.
Koback suffered took the loss, surrendering five runs, all earned, while striking out four in 4 1/3 innings of work.
The Pointers (6-3) return to Wisconsin and await a break from Mother Nature to take to the field. UW-Stevens Point's home opener against Ripon College, scheduled for March 27th, has already been postponed. The next scheduled game for UWSP is March 30th in Verona against Edgewood College.
