Engelland Tallies 100th Win in Loss to Whitewater

WHITEWATER - UW-Stevens Point senior wrestler Ben Engelland (Neenah/Neenah) recorded his 100th career victory on Friday eveningbut it was not enough as the 12th-ranked UW-Stevens Point wrestling team suffered an 18-16 upset loss at the hands of UW-Whitewater.

Kris Magruder (Racine/Case) started the action at 149 pounds with a 6-2 victory for the Pointers. Whitewater answered with back-to-back victories at 157 and 165.

Ryan Conat (New London, WI/New London) added another Pointer victory at 174 and Engelland followed that with a 12-2 major decision at 184.

Other than a forfeit victory at 125 by Brad Kuehn (Hugo, MN/) for the Pointers, the host Warhawks secured victories at the remaining weight classes to pull out the upset victory.

UW-Stevens Point (9-8, 2-2 WIAC) returns to the mat Feb. 12 at the Blugold Invitational in Eau Claire.
