Pointers Skate Past Saints, 3-1

STEVENS POINT – In a penalty filled game, the UW-Stevens Point men's hockey team tallied two second period goals and added one more in the third to come away with a 3-1 victory over the Saints of St. Scholastica Friday evening at K.B. Willett Arena.

The Saints came out firing on Friday night as they were able to outshoot the Pointers in the first period 11-4 but were unable to put a score on the board.

The action picked up in the second period as the teams combined for 22 penalties. 

The Pointers' Jon Bockmann (Wind Lake, WI/Muskego) tallied the first points of the night as he was assisted from Garrett Suter (Madison/Oregon) and Jonny Meo. 

Kyle Heck (Plover, WI/SPASH) also added a second period goal as he batted in a shot off of Sean McNeely (Brooklyn Park, MN/Osseo) to take a 2-0 advantage into the third period.

Like the second period, the third period was also filled with penalties as the two teams combined for 18 more penalties for 63 minutes including two game misconducts.

Point added one more goal as Bockmann scored his second point of the night as he set up Donnie Hallmark (Ontario, CA/Ontario Christian) for a three goal advantage.

The Saints finally added a goal late from Jeremy Dawes however were unable to close the gap any more, resulting in a 3-1 victory for the Pointers.

Nick Graves (Hewitt, WI/Ashwaubenon) nailed down the win for the Pointers as he was 25-for-26 in the save department.

The game tallied a total of 44 penalties, 24 from the Pointers, for 115 minutes in penalty minutes, with 68 coming from Point.

UW-Stevens Point (11-11, 7-8 NCHA) returns to action tomorrow night at K.B. Willett Arena when they host UW-Superior in another crucial NCHA match-up. Face-off is set for 7 p.m.   Saturday is also Senior Night.
