Pointers Cap Off Perfect WIAC Regular Season With Win Over Eagles

Box Score

LA CROSSE- The UW-Stevens Point women's basketball team became just the sixth team in WIAC history to go 16-0 in the WIAC regular season as they finished off their perfect conference regular season with a 63-49 win over UW-La Crosse on Saturday.

The Pointers became the last team since the 2002-03 Eau Claire Blugolds to pull off the feat of running the table in the WIAC.

After building up a three point halftime lead, the Pointers pushed their lead to 10 points with 12:59 remaining when Sam Barber (Schofield, WI/D.C. Everest/Winona St.) hit a three point jump shot.

UW-La Crosse would get no closer than six points the rest of the way as the Pointers picked up the win.

Leading the way for the Pointers was Cassie Bandow (Plover, WI/Pacelli) as she was the lone player in double figures for the team with 14 points.

Andrea Flease (New London/New London) had eight points and a team high four assists, while Britta Petersen (Luck/Luck) also scored eight and pulled down a team high seven rebounds.

One area where the Pointers dominated the Eagles in on Saturday was in the turnover department where the Pointers finished plus 17 in the category. The Pointers forced 27 Eagle turnovers, as Flease had a game high four steals.

The Pointers will have almost a week off as they will return to action next Friday night when they play in a WIAC Semifinal game at the Berg Gymnasium at 7:00 p.m.

The Pointers, who are the #1 seed in the WIAC Tournament, will host whoever is the lowest remaining seed in the Tournament.

Possible options for the Pointers in the Semifinals are between UW-Oshkosh, UW-River Falls, and UW-Eau Claire.

If the Pointers win on Friday they will host the WIAC Championship game, Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at the Berg.
