STEVENS POINT- The fourth-ranked UW-Stevens Point women's basketball team cruised by last-place UW-Platteville on Wednesday night on Bo Ryan Court, 75-54. The win pushes the Pointer win streak to 15 games, a new school record.
The fourth ranked Pointers (22-2, 15-0) are undefeated on the road this season and have not lost a game since December 11. The Pointers only converted on three three-point attempts but shot 50% from the floor as they were in control all night against the woeful Pioneers.
Stevens Point had three players finish in double figures with Britta Petersen (Luck/Luck) leading the way with a game-high 22 points to go along with her five assists. Cassie Bandow (Plover, WI/Pacelli) made seven of her ten attempts from the field as she finished with a total of 15 points.
In her first start of the season, Myranda Tyler (Grafton, WI/Grafton) led the Pointers in rebounding with seven to go along with her seven points. Sam Barber (Schofield, WI/D.C. Everest/Winona St.) contributed strong off the bench with 13 points and five rebounds.
The Pointers forced the Pioneers into 18 turnovers to keep their undefeated conference record intact.
Liz Lawinger was the leading scorer for the Pioneers finishing with 10 points.
UW-Stevens Point looks to end the regular season with a 16-game winning streak and stay perfect in conference as they travel to UW-La Crosse (19-5, 12-3 WIAC) on Saturday. The game is set to tip at 5 pm.
The Pointers have already secured the WIAC Tournament's No. 1 seed and will host a tournament semifinal game on Friday, Feb. 25 in Berg Gym at 7 p.m. against a to be determined opponent.
