STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The 18th-ranked UW-Stevens Point men's basketball team continued its winning ways on Friday evening, defeating St. Olaf College 83-70.
St. Olaf was the first to put points on the board, but the lead quickly vanished thanks to a
Trevor Hass (New London, WI/New London/Augustana (SD)) three-pointer. Both teams traded baskets for the first five minutes of the game, but UWSP finished the half outscoring the Oles 23-12 to take a 38-22 advantage into intermission.
It was all UWSP in the second half, as the Pointers maintained a double-digit lead throughout the half. The Oles pulled within 10, 77-67 with a minute left in the game, but
Dan Tillema (Randolph, WI/Randolph/Minnesota-Duluth) went six-for-six from the free throw line to seal the victory.
D. Tillema and
Jordan Brezinski (Muskego, WI/Muskego) led all scorers with 21 points while
Tyler Tillema (Randolph, WI/Randolph) and Hass chipped in 12 and 14 points, respectively. D. Tillema also tallied a team-high seven rebounds while Brezinski chipped in with six.
Bobby Fong led the Oles, scoring 20 points while teammate Stu Neville had a game-high 13 rebounds.
UWSP (10-2) will be back in action January 4 when it travels to UW-River Falls for a conference match-up. Game time is set for 8 p.m. as part of a women's and men's doubleheader.
