STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The seventh-ranked UW-Stevens Point women's basketball team continued its winning ways Saturday night as it defeated Lawrence 74-38 in Berg Gym.
Despite a slow start and shooting only 31 percent from the field, the Pointers maintained the lead throughout the first half and took a 26-21 advantage into the locker room.
The second half proved to be a different story as UWSP took command of the game, building a 20-point lead seven minutes into the second half. Lawrence pulled to within 16 several minutes later but the Pointer offense turned up the heat and went on a 28-4 run to finish the game.
Cassie Bandow (Plover, WI/Pacelli) led UWSP with 15 points and five rebounds while teammate
Brittni Buechel (St. Cloud, WI/New Holstein) added a career-high 10 points. Freshmen
Eleni Seitz (Marshfield, WI/Marshfield) and
Kaitlyn Jacobs (New Franken, WI/Green Bay Preble) also recorded their first collegiate points in the win.
The Pointers (10-0, 3-0 WIAC) will be back in action as they travel to San Diego, Calif. next week to play in the Surf 'N Slam Tournament. UWSP will take on Point Loma Nazarene Wednesday at 5:30 PST and Wellesley on Thursday, also at 5:30 PST.
