BLOOMINGTON, Ill. – The UW-Stevens Point women's basketball team pushed its record to 8-0 on Saturday afternoon with an 82-68 victory over the Titans of Illinois Wesleyan at the Shirk Center.
UW-Stevens Point opened the game on an 8-0 run but the Titans responded and took a 10-point lead, 32-22, with just under four minutes remaining in the half. The Pointers closed out the half on a 13-2 run to take a one point lead, 35-34, into the break.
After the Titans took a three-point lead at the start of the second half, the Pointers responded with another run to take and eight-point edge, 52-44, with 12:48 remaining.
The Titans cut the deficit to three, 54-51, but the Pointers pushed the lead back to double digits and rolled to the 14-point victory.
Ashley Averkamp (New Berlin, WI/West) led the way for the Pointers with 20 points on a 9-for-11 performance from the floor.
Brooke Allen (Barneveld, WI/Barneveld) chipped in with 13 points and
Cassie Bandow (Plover, WI/Pacelli) added 11.
Alyssa Olp (Brillion, WI/Brillion) connected on all four of her free throw attempts on the evening to extend her consecutive free throw steak to 25.
Melissa Gardner and Olivia Lett each tallied 11 points for the Titans.
UW-Stevens Point (8-0) returns to action on Wednesday, Dec. 14 with a 7 p.m. match-up against the UW-Whitewater Warhawks.
