STEVENS POINT, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point volleyball team saw its tournament run come to an end on Saturday afternoon as the Pointers fell 3-1 to UW-Whitewater in the championship match of the 2011 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Volleyball Championship Tournament.

The loss snapped an 18-game win streak the Pointers had, dating back to Sept. 24.

The top-seeded Pointers and Warhawks battled back-and-forth in the opening set, but UWW pulled away in the final points to go in front 1-0.

It was all UWSP in the second set as the Pointers rolled to the 25-18 victory.

The Warhawks came back in set three with a 25-18 victory and carried the momentum through into the fourth set with a 25-19 victory to secure their 14th WIAC Tournament Championship and an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship.

Kati Rau (Dorchester, WI/Colby) led the Pointers with 12 kills while Sarah Wildish (Menomonee Falls, WI/Menomonee Falls) chipped in with 10.

UW-Stevens Point (26-7) will await word of an at-large bid to the NCAA Division III tournament on Monday.
