STEVENS POINT – The UW-Stevens Point men's basketball team put on a strong performance from beyond the three point line to shoot past the Beavers of Buena Vista University 87-70 in nonconference action Saturday evening at Quandt Fieldhouse.

The Pointers built an early 19-1 lead in the opening half before the visiting Beavers began to chip away at the lead.

Buena Vista cut the deficit to nine, 26-17, with just under seven minutes remaining in the half but the Pointers pushed back and took a 41-26 edge into halftime.

In the second stanza, the Beavers put a scare into the Pointers, cutting the UWSP lead to just five, 58-53, with 11:08 remaining, but 3-point baskets down the stretch by Trevor Hass (New London, WI/New London/Augustana (SD)), Tyler Tillema (Randolph, WI/Randolph) and Dan Tillema (Randolph, WI/Randolph/Minnesota-Duluth) pushed the lead back to double digits.

Down the stretch the Beavers could get no closer than 10 as UWSP connected on critical free throws and clutch baskets to roll to the 17-point victory.

The Pointers finished the game 12-of-28 (.429) from beyond the three-point arc and 31-of-65 from the floor (.477) while Buena Vista shot 6-of-20 from three.

The Tillema brothers each finished the day with 24 points.  Tyler collected 10 rebounds and Dan nine.  Tyler added six assists. Jordan Brezinski (Muskego, WI/Muskego) finished with 17 points on a 6-of-11 performance from the floor and he connected on five of his nine free throw attempts.
