Haen finishes 13th at nationals, earns All-American status

2011 NCAA III Championship Results

WINNECONNE, Wis. - University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point's Kelly Haen (Kaukauna, WI/Kaukauna) finished 13th at the 2011 National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division III Women's Cross Country Championships Saturday morning at Lake Breeze Golf Club in Winneconne.  She completed the 6,000-meter course in a time of 21:24.05.

“Kelly had an outstanding performance today,” said head coach Megan Craig. “She hasn't had an easy career as she dealt with injuries, but she is just one of those runners that does everything right and really works on the little things. All her hard work really paid off.”

Haen's hard work helped her finish her collegiate cross country career with a Personal Record, beating her previous PR by an impressive 40 seconds.
“Our theme this year as a team was finish strong, and Kelly did just that,” said Craig. “She was awesome.”

A total of 277 runners completed the race.  Chiara Del Piccolo of Williams College (Mass.) won the women's national title with a time of 20:52.08.

Washington University (Mo.) captured the national title with 70 team points while Middlebury College (Vt.) was second with 111 and Williams College (Mass.) third with 153.  Claremont-Mudd-Scripps College (Calif.) placed fourth (223 points) while Massachusetts Institute of Technology was fifth (276).  A total of 32 teams competed.

Haen was one of 56 individuals, the first seven athletes from each region who are not a part of a qualifying team, selected to participate in the championship.
