Wrestling competes at Concordia Open

MEQUON, Wis. –Joe Mileski (Gladstone, MI/Gladstone) took home the 133 pound championship and Ryan Conat (New London, WI/New London) finished third at 174 pounds as the UW-Stevens Point wrestling team competed at the 2011 Concordia Open. 
 
“Overall, I think the guys wrestled hard,” said head coach Johnny Johnson. “We have a lot of work to do yet, but the guys know that. This was a tough tournament, a grinder, but I was really happy every guy went in hard and fought in every match.”

Mileski took home the championship at 133 pounds, going 5-0 on the day.  Mileski secured the championship with a 12-7 victory over the top-seeded wrestler in the bracket, Tom Mirocha of Wartburg, ranked No. 2 in the nation, who took fourth last season at nationals.

Ryan Conat (New London, WI/New London) added a third place finish at 174 pounds for the Pointers, defeating the national runner-up and nation's No. 1 ranked Bradley Banks of Wartburg in the third place match. 

Jordan Kust (Clintonville, WI/Shawano) finished fourth on the day, posting a 6-2 record on the day, with his only two losses coming to Grant Sutter of Whitewater.

Elsewhere for the Pointers, Bill Langford (Westosha, WI/Westosha Central) finished fifth at 165, Ben Strobel (Neenah, WI/Neenah) battled through nine matches to take home a sixth place finish at 157 pounds and Dustin Wozniak (Stanley, WI/Stanley-Boyd) and Lance Fabry (Ashwaubenon, WI/Ashwaubenon) posted eighth place finishes at 197 and 125 pounds, respectively.

The Pointers will take the Thanksgiving week off and return to action on Tuesday, Nov. 29 with a 7 p.m. match-up with UW-Oshkosh in the first conference action of the season.
