Soccer outlasts Stout in WIAC Championship

Box Score

MENOMONIE, Wis. – Junior Sammy Greer (Rubicon, WI/Hartford) found the back of the goal in the game's 72nd minute to power the UW-Stevens Point women's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over UW-Stout in the opening round of the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Women's Soccer Championship Tournament.

The Pointers (11-7) were able to break a scoreless first half tie when Greer sent home a pass from Kim Jobke (Menomonee Falls, WI/Sussex Hamilton) at the 72 minute mark.

The Pointers were out-shot by the Blue Devils 15-6 on the evening but managed to keep the offensive pressure on, facing a win-or-go-home scenario. Goalkeeper Brittany Marx (Washburn, WI/Washburn) stopped all seven shots on target Stout recorded.

UW-Stout's season comes to an end with a record of 11-5-1.

The Pointers will next take on top-seeded UW-Whitewater in the semifinal round of the 2011 Championship on Thursday, Nov. 3. Game time is set for 6 p.m. at Fiskum Field.
