Soccer snags final WIAC Tournament spot with win over Platteville

PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point women's soccer team battled their way to a 2-0 victory over UW-Platteville on Saturday evening to secure the final spot in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) tournament.

In the final regular season contest for both teams, neither team scored in the opening half of play as the offenses struggled to get anything going. 

In the second half, UW-Stevens Point's Sarah Vitale (River Falls, WI) struck in the 72nd minute to give the visiting Pointers a one goal advantage. 

Sammy Greer (Rubicon, WI) struck just six minutes later, scoring unassisted to give the Pointers a two goal advantage. 

Brittany Marx (Ashland, WI) tallied five of her six saves in the second half to give UWSP the victory and the No. 6 seed in the upcoming WIAC Tournament. 

The Pointers (10-7, 4-4 WIAC) will travel to No. 3 seeded UW-Stout (11-4-1, 5-3 WIAC) for an opening round contest on Tuesday, Nov. 1.  Game time is tentatively scheduled for 2 p.m.
