PLATTEVILLE, Wis. – The UW-Stevens Point volleyball team recorded a 3-0 victory on Wednesday evening over the Pioneers of UW-Platteville at Williams Fieldhouse, winning by scores of 25-20, 25-15, 25-23. The win keeps the Pointers in first place in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) heading into the final weeks of the season.
The first-place Pointers, who along with the Pioneers were receiving votes in this week's American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) poll, improve to 19-6 overall, 6-1 in conference play while the Pioneers fall to 18-10 overall, 3-3 in conference play.
Christina Brinkman (Bristol, WI/Westosha Central) led the way with 11 kills while
Sarah Wildish (Menomonee Falls, WI/Menomonee Falls) added eight and
Morgan Bartkowiak (Slinger, WI/Slinger) added seven.
Alexis Hartman (Deer Park, IL/Lake Zurich) tallied 30 of the team's 36 assists while
Ally Groth (Germantown, WI/Germantown) had a team-high 18 digs.
Allison Davis (Rochelle, IL/Rochelle Township) led all players with six blocks.
Briana Kaiser led the host Pioneers with 10 kills.
The Pointers return to action on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 21-22 when they host Augustana, Carroll and St. Norbert in a four team tournament in Berg Gym. First match Friday is set for 5 p.m. when UWSP takes on Augustana.
