Volleyball opens UW-Stout tournament with pair of wins

MENOMONIE - The UW-Stevens Point volleyball team picked up a pair of nonconference victories on Friday evening at the 2011 UW-Stout Tournament.  The Pointers posted wins against UW-River Falls in the opener and Luther College in the night's final match. 

Christina Brinkman (Bristol, WI/Westosha Central) and Sarah Wildish (Menomonee Falls, WI/Menomonee Falls) led the way with 14 and 10 kills, respectively, in the opening match against UW-River Falls while Alexis Hartman (Deer Park, IL/Lake Zurich) added 25 assists and Ally Groth (Germantown, WI/Germantown) chipped in 19 digs. The Pointers won in four sets, 25-16, 25-22, 22-25, 25-16. 
 
In the final match of the Pointers tallied a 3-0 victory over Luther College by scores of 25-15, 25-16, 25-13.  Brinkman again led the way with 13 kills while Wildish and Allison Davis (Rochelle, IL/Rochelle Township) each chipped in with seven.  Cassidy Kohlhagen (Racine, WI/Union Grove) led the team with 16 assists while Wildish had a team-high eight digs. 
 
The Pointers return to action on Saturday with matches against Dubuque and host UW-Stout in Menomonie.
