Meo and Madden lead Pointers past St. John's

Box Score

STEVENS POINT- UW-Stevens Point men's hockey team improved their record to 7-10 overall with a 4-2 victory over St. John's University Saturday night at Ice Hawks Arena.

Johnny Meo (Vernon Hills, IL/Ursuline) started the scoring with a goal midway through the first period. It was the first of two goals for Meo as he added another after St. John's tied the score at 1-1. Starting with the Meo goal the Pointers scored two more goals, both off the stick of Jon Madden (Brighton, MI/Howell).

Madden pushed the lead to 4-1 for the Pointers to aid the Pointers in controlling the Johnnies the rest of the way. St. John's added another goal to cut the deficit down to two goals, but that would be all the scoring they had in them.

The Pointers outshot the Johnnies by a total of 43-20 spending most of the evening on the attack.

The win is the second for the Pointers at home this season, although both were victories at their home away from home in Ice Hawks Arena.

Nick Graves (Hewitt, WI/Ashwaubenon) evened his record up at 7-7 on the season by earning the win as he finished with 18 total saves in the game.

UW-Stevens Point (7-10, 3-7 NCHA) has a week off before they return to action on Friday, January 21 when they take on UW-River Falls in a weekend series. The puck is set to drop at 7 p.m. at K.B. Willett Arena.
