STEVENS POINT – For over 53 minutes on Saturday the UW-Stevens Point women's soccer team found itself in a situation it hadn't been in all season. Facing a deficit.
The Falcons of UW-River Falls scored just two minutes and five seconds into the game to take a 1-0 lead, the first deficit the Pointers have faced in their seven previous contests.
It took until the second half for the UW-Stevens Point offense to come alive. The Pointers first erased the deficit thanks to a goal from senior Andrea Piefer with 34 minutes remaining off an assist from
Sammy Greer.
Lauren Semling then gave the Pointers the lead with just 18 minutes remaining off a deflection in front of the goal.
The Pointers out-shot the Falcons 27-4 on the afternoon, including a 19-2 edge in the opening half, but were unable to convert until the second half.
Liz Hunter (Stevens Point/SPASH) tallied one save on the afternoon while her counterpart Rachel Thompson tallied five.
The Pointers (8-0, 3-0 WIAC) return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 29 when they travel to UW-Oshkosh for a 7 p.m. match-up against the Titans under the lights at J.J. Keller Field at Titan Stadium.
