STEVENS POINT-The UW-Stevens Point women's soccer team started its 2010 conference season on a high note with a 2-0 shutout win over UW-La Crosse, 2-0, at Community Stadium Wednesday afternoon.

Senior Vicki Bieschke (Oconomowoc/Waukesha Memorial) had a goal and an assist and Hillary Sauer (Stevens Point, WI/SPASH) scored the other goal to lead the Pointers past the Eagles.

Sauer got the scoring going in the first half with a goal off a pass from Bieschke with 8:48 remaining in the half.

Bieschke tallied her goal in the second half off a pass from Sammy Greer (Rubicon, WI/Hartford) to put the Pointers on top 2-0.

Senior goalkeeper Liz Hunter (Stevens Point/SPASH) had one save on the day for the Pointers as she recorded her fourth shutout of the year.

The key defensive play came early on in the game when a ball bounced over Hunter's head and appeared headed for the goal. Senior Ashley Anders (Fond du Lac/Fond du Lac) kicked the ball away right before crossing the goal line to keep the game scoreless and preserve the shutout.

The Pointers (6-0, 1-0 WIAC) return to action Saturday, September 25th against UW-River Falls at the Point Soccer Bowl. The game is scheduled to start at 2:00 p.m.
