Kaitlin Wolfe tallied 11 kills and
Kati Rau added 10 but it was not enough as the UW-Stevens Point volleyball team fell 3-1 to the Warhawks of UW-Whitewater in the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) opener for both teams.
The Pointers fell behind early, dropping the first two sets of the match 25-11, 25-18. The Pointers rebounded in game three, taking a closely-contest set 25-23.
In the fourth set, the Pointers put up a valiant effort but the eighth-ranked Warhawks proved to be too much, as they took the set and the victory 27-25.
Chantel York led all Pointers with 27 assists while Wolf added three service aces.
Molly Elderbrook had a team-high 22 digs on the evening.
Four Warhawks finished with double-digit kills, led by Katy Krajnak's 14.
The Pointers (8-3, 0-1 WIAC) return to action on Friday, Sept. 17 when they travel to UW-Superior for a 7 p.m. match-up with the Yellowjackets.
