Pointers Go 2-2 at the UW-Oshkosh Pizza Hut Volleyball Classic

OSHKOSH – Against some of the best completion the UW-Stevens Point women's volleyball team has faced this season, the Pointers posed a 2-2 record at the 2010 UW-Oshkosh Pizza Hut Classic.

The pair losses marked the first of the season for the Pointer volleyball team.

The Pointers opened tournament play on Friday with a 3-0 victory over Lakeland College, handing the Muskies a straight set loss 25-21, 25-21, 25-23. Morgan Bartkowiak led the way for the Pointers recording nine kills. Kaitlin Wolfe added seven kills of her own and also had a team-high 25 digs.  Molly Elderbrook added 14 digs of her own in the victory. 

In the nightcap, the Pointers took the University of Chicago to five stets but was unable to come out with the victory, as the Maroon defeated the Pointers 25-15, 17-25, 19-25, 25-21, 15-8. Wolfe led the way with 14 kills for the Pointers while Bartkowiak added four block assists and two solo blocks.

On Saturday, the Pointers again posted a 1-1 record, defeating Lawrence University 3-0 before falling to the University of Texas-Dallas 3-0. 

It was again Bartkowiak who led the way against UT-Dallas for the Pointers, as she tallied seven kills in the loss. Elderbrook added 19 digs while Lizzy Taylor chipped in 15 in her first action back from an injury. 

The Pointers (8-2) return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 15 when they begin Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action at UW-Whitewater. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
