WHITEWATER - UW-Stevens Point and UW-Whitewater will match-up for the 10th time this season in what will be the final game of the 2010 NCAA Division III Midwest Regional after the Warhawks staved off elimination with a
9-3 victory in Saturday's opening game.
The Warhawks got a masterful performance from Riley Tincher, who improved to 13-1 on the season, as he shut down the Pointers, pitching for the third time in four days. Tincher went the distance, scattering 11 hits and allowed just two earned runs, throwing 35 first-pitch strikes to the 38 batters he faced, securing the victory.
The Pointers were unable to string much offense together in response to the Warhawks five run fifth inning, as they took control 8-1 and never looked back.
Eric Fritz (Custer/SPASH) and
Jared Surman (Kimberly/Kimberly) each finished with three hits, each driving in a run.
Eric Van Beck suffered the loss, allowing eight runs, six earned on eight hits in 4 2/3 innings.
The Pointers and Warhawks meet at approximately 2:50 p.m. at Prucha Field.
