AUBURNDALE, Fla. – The Pointer baseball team closed out their 2010 spring trip on Thursday evening with a pair of victories, downing Allegheny College 3-2 and picking up a 7-3 win against Lawrence University.
Against Allegheny the Pointers used six strong innings from freshman pitcher
Jack Archie to keep the game close while senior
Ryan Povlickk earned the victory, closing out the final three innings.
Jeremy Richter drove in the game-winning run in the Pointer half of the eighth, giving the team the one run victory.
In game two, the Pointers stranded several base runners but still managed to push the runs across, handing Lawrence a 7-3 victory.
Max Mittelstaedt picked up the victory for the Pointers behind the strength of a 16 hit performance by the Pointer offense.
The Pointers wrap up their spring trip with a record of 5-2, having won their final three games of the road trip.
The Pointers return home and face St. Norbert College in their northern opener on Sunday, March 28 in De Pere. The first game of the doubleheader is scheduled for a Noon start.
