Kent Detlefsen (Lakeville, MN/Rochester) scored his first to goals as a Pointer on Friday evening but it was not enough as the Pointers dropped a 5-2 decision against the UW-Superior Yellowjackets in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association (NCHA) action.
After a scoreless first period, Detlefsen put the Pointers on the board first, scoring at the 6:42 mark of the second period on the power play from assists by
Donnie Hallmark (Ontario, CA/Ontario Christian) and
Harrison Niemann (Canton, MI/Novi).
The last-place Yellowjackets (9-10-3, 3-10-2 NCHA) answered with a power play goal of their own just eight minutes later, as Kyle Clement scored on the 6v5 advantage, knotting the score at a goal apiece.
Braden Desmet scored just 1:18 into the third to give Superior their first lead of the game and Jesse Junkermeier scored what proved to be the game-winner at the 14:18 mark of the third.
Detlefsen scored his second goal of the game and the year at the 15:26 mark, but Junkermeier and Talon Berlando added goals in the final minutes to push the final score to 5-2.
Nick Graves (Hewitt, WI/Ashwaubenon) tallied 29 saves in goal for the Pointers while Bryan Dalbeck recorded 24 for Superior.
The Pointers return to action Saturday evening when they travel to Duluth, Minn. for a match-up with the Saints of St. Scholastica. Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
