Pointers suffer sweep with 4-2 loss to Yellowjackets

Box Score

SUPERIOR – The UW-Stevens Point men's hockey team scored two goals on Saturday evening but it was not enough to halt their losing skid, as the losing streak reached six games with a 4-2 loss at the hands of the Yellowjackets of UW-Superior at Wessman Arena.

The Yellowjackets started the scoring with a shorthanded goal at the 5:43 mark of the game's opening period and added two more even strength goals before the period ended to take a 3-0 lead after the first 20 minutes of play.

The Pointers got on the board in the second period as Luke Nesper (Eagle River, WI/Northland Pines) tallied his second goal of the season off assists from Nic Polaski and (Wixom, MI/Walled Lake Western)Harrison Nieman#, cutting the deficit to just two.

Another goal by the Pointers at the 4:29 mark of the third period by Chad Boeckman (St. Louis, MO/Wentzville Holt) from Tyler Krueger (Stevens Point, WI/SPASH) pulled UWSP to within one, 3-2.

Superior pushed their advantage back to two goals with Pat Dalebc's unassisted goal in the just two minutes later and the Yellowjacket defense held on from there to preserve the lead and earn the victory.

Nick Graves (Hewitt, WI/Ashwaubenon) took the loss in net, giving up three goals in the game's opening period before being pulled for Randy Wolcott (East Haven, CT/Avon Old Farms). Wolcott tallied 17 saves while Graves made four.

UW-Stevens Point (4-7-0, 2-6-0 NCHA) returns to action next weekend, Dec. 10-11, against the Blugolds of UW-Eau Claire, winners of four straight and fresh off a weekend series sweep of the Blue Devils of UW-Stout.
