Wrestlers Finish 1-2 Against Nation's Top-Ranked Teams

LA CROSSE – The UW-Stevens Point wrestlers finished the day 1-2 against some of the nation's elite programs at the 2010 Holiday Inn Express/UW-La Crosse Wrestling Duals at Mitchell Hall in La Crosse.

The 14th-ranked Pointers opened the day against St. Cloud State, ranked second in NCAA Division II. Kris Magruder (Racine/Case) and Ben Engelland (Neenah/Neenah) tallied the lone victories in the opening match, as Magruder posted a 4-2 win over St. Cloud's Jacob Horn. Engelland also kept his record unblemished on the season with a 2-0 victory over Mic Berg. Previously undefeated Jordan Schulte (Mosinee, WI/Mosinee) suffered his first setback of the year by pin at 4:50 as the Pointers fell 33-6

In the day's second dual it would get no easier as the Pointers took to the mat against the ninth-ranked Johnnies of St. John's University. The Pointers fared better against the Johnnies, tallying four victories, two by pin, but were unable to come away with the victory, falling 22-18.

Joe Mileski (Gladstone, MI/Gladstone) won his match at 125 pounds over St. John's Donovan Sullivan by fall in 4:03. Ben Strobel (Neenah, WI/Neenah) and Engelland each tallied victories by decision 8-5 and 4-0, respectively. Steve Wozniak (Neillsville/Greenwood) won his match at heavyweight by pin in 4:18 to close out the winning for the Pointers.

In the day's final dual, the Pointers faced the 10th-ranked Rams of Cornell College and came away with a 21-14 victory. Mileski, Magruder Engelland and Wozniak tallied victories while Ryan Conat (New London, WI/New London) and Brandon Jochem (Hustisford/Hustisford) earned victories of 3-2 and 8-4, respectively.

The Pointers (3-2) return to action on Dec. 9 when they host UW-Platteville in Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference action at Berg Gym. Action is set to begin at 7 p.m.
