Second Period Outburst Leads Oswego Over Pointers

Box Score

OSWEGO, N.Y. – A three goal outburst by Oswego State in less than a minute was part of a five goal second period that proved to be the difference on Friday evening as the Lakers handed the UW-Stevens Point men's hockey team a 6-1 loss in consolation game of the PathFinder Bank/Oswego Hockey Classic.

The loss drops the Pointers to 5-10-0 overall while the Lakers improve to 13-2-0.

After a scoreless first period, Oswego started the scoring just 46 seconds into the second as Ian Boots lit the lamp on the Lakers home ice.

Chad Boeckman answered for the Pointers at the 2:10 mark of the second period, sending home a rebound off a Harrison Niemann (Canton, MI/Novi) shot.

At the 7:20 mark of the second, Boots scored what proved to be the eventual game-winner, finding the back of the net past Pointer netminder Randy Wolcott (East Haven, CT/Avon Old Farms)

A UWSP slashing penalty started the Oswego scoring streak late in second that resulted in a 5-1 score after two periods of play.

The final Laker goal came late in the third period off back-up goalie Steve Hamilton (Stevens Point/SPASH), giving the tournament host's the 6-1 victory.

Oswego outshot the Pointers 40-27 on the afternoon. Wolcott stopped 31 shots for the Pointers before giving way to Hamilton for the final 5:22.

Boeckman did receive all-tournament accolades for his efforts on the two game trip.

UW-Stevens Point returns to action with a pair of nonconference games on Jan. 7-8 at Ice Hawks Arena in Stevens Point. The venue change was necessary to accommodate the Sentry Classic Hockey tournament at K.B. Willett Arena. Game time for both nights is scheduled for 7 p.m.
