Postgame Interview
SUPERIOR – The UW-Stevens Point men's hockey team took a 1-0 lead in the first period but was unable to hold on, dropping their first road game of the season 2-1 against the Yellowjackets of UW-Superior Friday evening.
The loss pushes the UW-Stevens Point losing streak to five and drops the team's record to 4-6-0 overall, 2-4-0 in the Northern Collegiate Hockey Association.
Harrison Niemann (Canton, MI/Novi) scored the lone goal of the evening at the 8:06 mark of the first period, his fourth goal of the season, giving UWSP the early 1-0 lead.
Superior tied the game at the 18:31 mark of the opening period, as Brett Meyers tallied his first goal for the Yellowjackets.
With under four minutes remaining in the second period, Superior scored the go-ahead goal on the power play.
The Yellowjacket's goalie Drew Strandberg and the rest of the Superior defense held off the Pointers from there, holding on for the 2-1 victory.
Nick Graves (Hewitt, WI/Ashwaubenon) stopped 20 of the 22 'jackets shots on net and Strandberg also tallied 20 saves on the evening.
The Pointers and Yellowjackets return to the ice Saturday evening. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
