Late Run Powers Pointers Past Roadrunners

LAS VEGAS - Jerrel Harris (Milwaukee/Dominican) scored a team-high 22 points and Nick Krull (Marshall/Marshall) added a team-high 10 rebounds as the fourth-ranked UW-Stevens Point men's basketball team used a 15-5 second half run to defeat #20 Ramapo College (N.J.) 85-74 on Monday evening at the D3hoops.com Classic.

The Pointers led by as many as six in the game's opening half until the Roadrunners tied the game at 14 and built an eight point lead, 24-16 with 7:57 remaining before halftime.   

The Pointers answered with a run of their own and turned an eight point deficit into a three point edge at the half, 36-33. 

In the second half, the team's traded the lead five more times until, tied at 63-63 with 5:42 remaining, the Pointers went on a 10-1 run to open up a nine point advantage, 73-64, and never looked back, holding off the Roadrunners and earning the victory. 

Harris notched four steals and three assists to go along with his team-high scoring effort, leading a quartet scoring in double figures including Tyler Tillema (Randolph, WI/Randolph)'s 16, Louis Hurd (Portage/Portage)'s 13 and Scott Hoelzel (Kaukauna/Kaukauna)'s 10. 

Ramapo's Ahmad Hassan led all scorers with 30 points including 12 free throws and four three-pointers. 

The Pointers (6-2) return to action tomorrow as they continue their grueling four game road trip with a match-up against Colorado College in Las Vegas. The Pointers then travel to Phoenix for games against Simpson and Linfield. Tuesday's game is set for a 12 p.m. PST tip-off.
