Blugolds Down Pointers 4-2

EAU CLAIRE – UW-Stevens Point tied the game a two goals apiece on Friday evening at Hobbs Ice Center but a late goals by UW-Eau Claire in both the second and third periods proved to be the difference as the Blugolds came away with a 4-2 victory over the Pointers.

The loss is the seventh straight for the Pointers, who fall to 4-8-0 overall, 2-7-0 in Northern Collegiate Hockey Association play. 

Eau Claire tallied the only goal in the game's opening period, going in front 1-0 on a goal by Tyler Romasco, his seventh of the season, at the 11:08 mark. 

In the second period, the Blugolds tallied a goal on the power play to pull in front 2-0 with 14:54 remaining. The Pointers responded as Jon Bockmann (Wind Lake, WI/Muskego) netted his first goal of the season off an assist from Garrett Suter (Madison/Oregon), cutting the deficit to one. Four minutes later Sean McNeeley evened the score for the Pointers with his second goal of the season off assists from Kyle Politz (Apple Valley, MN/Apple Valley) and Suter. 

Eau Claire tallied a late second period goal to take a 3-2 advantage into the third period and an even strength goal at the 15:44 mark of the third put the Blugolds in front 4-2. 

Randy Wolcott (East Haven, CT/Avon Old Farms) took the loss in net for the Pointers, stopping 29 of the 33 Eau Claire shots on net. Brandon Stephenson earned the victory between the pipes, stopping 34 of the 36 Pointer shots on goal. 

The Pointers and Blugolds return to the ice tomorrow evening at the Hobbs Ice Center. Face-off is set for 7 p.m.
