Engelland, Schulte Earn Championships at Concordia Open

MEQUON - Ben Engelland (Neenah/Neenah) and Jordan Schulte (Mosinee, WI/Mosinee) each finished the day with perfect records and won their respective weight classes as the Pointers took to the mats at the 2010 Concordia Open hosted by Concordia University (Wis.).

Engelland posted a perfect 4-0 record and defeated Josef Rau of Elmhurst by a decisive 9-3 score in the championship match to earn the 184 pound class title. 

Schulte need one more match than Engelland but had the same result a 165 pounds, defeating Jake Moore (Wabash) 3-1 in the championship match. 

Elsewhere for the Pointers, Ryan Conat (New London, WI/New London) advanced to the 174 pound championship match but dropped an 8-1 decision to second-seeded Frank Savegnago of Elmhurst. Joe Mileski (Gladstone, MI/Gladstone) also advanced to the championship match at 125 pounds but fell by pin at the 7:00 minute mark of the title match to Mack Drees of UW-Platteville, finishing second. 

Kris Magruder (Racine/Case) also posted a second place finish on the day at 149 pounds, with his only loss coming to the defending national champion in his weight class, Isaac Dukes of Case Western Reserve. 

Steve Wozniak (Neillsville/Greenwood) (285) and Chad Gregory (Lawton, OK/Lawton) (197) each finished in third place in their respective weight classes. Gregory faced fellow Pointer Brandon Jochem (Hustisford/Hustisford) in the third place match and came away with a 3-1 victory. Jordan Kust (Clintonville, WI/Shawano) also wrestled his way back from a third round loss to finish in fourth place at 133 pounds.

The Pointers return to the mat next on Tuesday, Nov.30 when they host UW-Oshkosh in a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference dual beginning at 7 p.m. at Berg Gym.
