DUBUQUE- The UW-Stevens Point women's soccer team saw its season end on Saturday as Dennison University advanced to the next round of the NCAA Tournament on penalty kicks.

Tied 1-1 after two overtimes, the game went to penalty kicks where Dennison converted all five attempts and the Pointers made four out of five attempts.

After playing a scoreless first half, Dennison got on the board first when Kimmi Oshita scored just over nine minutes into the second half giving them a 1-0 lead.

That score remained until 1:05 left in the game when the Pointers tied it up at one on a goal from Mary Jean Cornelius (West Bend/West).  Cornelius scored off a pass from Andrea Peiffer (Mequon/Homestead).

The two teams played a couple scoreless overtime periods before the game went to penalty kick.

Pointer goalkeeper Liz Hunter (Stevens Point/SPASH) finished the game with seven saves, as did her counterpart Dennison goalie Andrea Karl.

The Pointers finished their season with an 18-2-2 record.  They won both the WIAC regular season and tournament titles as well as advanced to the NCAA Sweet Sixteen for the first time since 2008.
