ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – The UW-Stevens Point women's cross country team finished with a third place finish at the 2010 NCAA Division III women's cross country Midwest regional on Saturday, almost assuring a spot for the team in the 2010 NCAA Championships next weekend.
The top two teams from the regional receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship, but teams are selected from each region on an at-large basis.
The Pointers kept their top four runners within 13 places of each other, aiding in the third place finish.
The top finisher on the day for the Pointers was Claire Roberts (Oakfield/Horace Mann), who finished in seventh place with a time of 21 minutes 47 seconds. Kelly Haen (Kaukauna, WI/Kaukauna) finished in 14th place with a time of 22:05. Sarah Glunn (Arbor Vitae/Lakeland Union) placed 17th with a time of 22:09 and Shaun Krueger (Kiel/Kiel) finished in 20th with a time of 22:14.
Rounding out the top-5 point scorers for the Pointers was Kelly Laska, who finished 40th with a time of 22:42.
The Pointers will await word of an at-large bid to the championships on Sunday.
