ROCK ISLAND, Ill. – The UW-Stevens Point men's cross country team placed third in the field of 39 teams at the 2010 NCAA Division III Cross Country Regional on Saturday afternoon, thanks in part to a third place finish from Terry Witkowski (Delafield, WI/Kettle Moraine).
The top two teams from each regional, including the Midwest Regional , automatically qualify for the 2010 NCAA Championship next weekend at Wartburg College. The committee then chooses at-large teams for the championship, of which the Pointers hop to be included in. The full NCAA Division III championship field will be announced Sunday.
Witkowski posted a time of24 minutes 12 seconds at the regional, good for third place. Joel Heroux (Sturgeon Bay/Sevastopol) (24:23) and Tim Thornburg (Delafield/Kettle Moraine) (24:27) also finished in the top-10 for the Pointers.
Rounding out the group of top finishers for the Pointers was Sean Hasenstein (Sheboygan/Sheboygan Lutheran), who finished in 37th place with a time of 25:01 and Dan Sullivan (Elkhorn, WI/Elkhorn) finished 57th with a time of 25:24.
News of a possible at-large bid will be announced Sunday.
