Late Goals Net Green Knights Victory

STEVENS POINT – For a second straight night the UW-Stevens Point men's hockey team was unable to defeat St. Norbert as the Green Knights netted two late goals in the third period to defeat the Pointers 2-0 at K.B. Willet Arena Saturday evening.

In the first period, the Pointers were unable to capitalize on three power play opportunities, including a five-on-three advantage, as both teams ended the period scoreless. Stevens Point did manage to outshoot St. Norbert 10-3.

Both teams once again struggled in the second period to put a goal on the board with both goalies making saves on breakaways. Point fired 11 shots on goal compared to the Green Knights six.

St. Norbert finally was able to break the tie with a goal on a laser shot from Johan Ryd with 6:34 remaining in the game. 

The Green Knights were able to add an insurance goal with 20 seconds left on an empty net goal by Brandon Longley. St. Norbert outshoot the Pointers 17-4 in the third period.

Nick Graves (Hewitt, WI/Ashwaubenon) saved 24 shots in the game and B.J. O'Brien saved 25 for the Green Knights in the shutout effort.

#10 UW-Stevens Point (4-3, 2-2 NCHA) will return to action next Friday and Saturday as they face off against UW-Stout at K.B. Willet Arena. The puck is scheduled to drop at 7 p.m. both nights.
