Pointers Rally Past Eagles 3-0

STEVENS POINT- The University Wisconsin-Stevens Point women's volleyball team rallied off the last seven points of game three to sweep UW-La Crosse on Wednesday night at Berg Gynasium.

The Pointers trailed 18-22 in game three before they scored the last seven points starting with two aces by senior Kaitlin Wolfe (Roscoe, IL/Newman Catholic). They finished the rally with a kill from sophomore Morgan Bartkowiak (Slinger, WI/Slinger).

The Pointers also trailed in game one of the match, as the Eagles built a 24-22 lead and found themselves one point from winning game one. The Pointers however scored the last four points of game one to win the game, 26-24. They also won game two 25-17.

Leading the way for the Pointers was sophomore Christina Brinkman (Bristol, WI/Westosha Central) who had 12 kills and 11 digs on the evening. Junior Chantel York (Lake Geneva/Badger) led the Pointers with 36 assists.

Lizzy Taylor (Eau Claire/Memorial) added 10 assists for the Pointers, and Bartkowiak finished with eight kills. Katie Rau and Allison Davis (Rochelle, IL/Rochelle Township) also finished the match with six kills for the Pointers.

The win was the first for the Pointers over the Eagles since 2006, when they defeated UW-La Crosse three games to two.

The Pointers return to action on Friday when they travel to UW-Platteville for the UW-Platteville Tournament. They will face Wartburg in their first match at 6 p.m.
