Men's Cross Country wins 2010 WIAC Title

COLFAX, Wis. – The 10th-ranked UW-Stevens Point men's cross country team totaled 60 points on Saturday afternoon on their way to the 2010 Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Men's Cross Country Championship. 

Terry Witkowski (Delafield, WI/Kettle Moraine) paced the Pointers with a runner-up individual performance, finishing with a time of 24 minutes, 52 seconds, seven seconds behind the top finisher from UW-Platteville. 

Three other Pointers finished in the top-10 to help UW-Stevens Point secure its fifth conference title in school history and first since hosting the event in 2008. 

Joel Heroux (Sturgeon Bay/Sevastopol) finished in sixth place for the Pointers with a time of 25:15, Tim Thornburg (Delafield/Kettle Moraine) finished seventh posting a time of 25:27 and Sean Hasenstein (Sheboygan/Sheboygan Lutheran) finished 10th with his time of 25:31. 

Rounding out the top five finishers was freshman Dan Sullivan (Elkhorn, WI/Elkhorn), who with his time of 26:20, finished 35th

Rounding out the top-seven for the Pointers, Evan Cooper (Delafield, WI/Kettle Moraine) finished 40th with a time of 26:30 and Spencer Siddons (Andover, MN/Andover) finished 46th with a time of 26:38. 

Elsewhere for the Pointers James Heroux (Sturgeon Bay, WI/Sevastopol) finished 54th, Alex Steiner (Chilton, WI/Chilton) finished 56th, Michael Moore (LaGrange, IL/Lyons Township) finished 67th, Logan Seipel (Colfax, WI/Colfax) finished 71st and Bryan Jensen finished 80th.

The Pointers will now head to the NCAA Division III Midwest Regional and compete for a chance to qualify as a team for the 2010 NCAA Division III Championships in Waverly, Iowa, hosted by Wartburg College.
