EAUCLAIRE- UW-Eau Claire blocked a Jered Fohrman (Stevens Point, WI/SPASH) kick with six seconds remaining in regulation to force overtime and then went on to beat the Pointers 20-13 Saturday afternoon at Carson Park.
The Blugolds got the ball first in overtime and scored on a 16-yard pass on third and goal to give the Blugolds a 20-13 lead.
The Pointers had only three plays on their overtime possession as the third was a game ending interception by the Blugolds Tyler Janus.
After falling behind 7-0, the Pointers got on the scoreboard with 13:25 in the second quarter on a 43-yard field goal by Fohrman.
The Blugolds went up 10-3 in the third quarter, and Fohrman added another field goal, this time from 38 yards out, to make the score 10-6.
The Pointers took their only lead of the game 13-10 on a two yard run by Kyle Fuhrman (Reedsburg/Reedsburg) with 14:16 to go in the game.
The Pointers held that lead until 3:06 left in the game when UW-Eau Claire tied the score 13-13 on a 19-yard field goal.
Jared Jenkins (Milwaukee/Rufus King) led the way on offense for the Pointers as he finished the day with nine receptions and 106 yards. Running back Keith Ingram (Milwaukee, WI/Riverside) added 95 rushing yards for the Pointers.
The Pointer defense finished the day with six sacks, as Joe Gallion (Wausau/East) and Brandon Bruger (Spencer/Spencer) each had two . Bruger led the defense with eight tackles.
The Pointers return to action next week, on October 9th when they host UW-Oshkosh in the annual Homecoming game. Game time is set to start at 1:00 p.m.
