Cornelius kicks home overtime winner

Box Score STEVENS POINT – Mary Jean Cornelius (West Bend/West) gave the Pointers the 1-0 overtime win on Saturday afternoon, as she found the back of the net in the 97th minute to help 17th-ranked UW-Stevens Point defeat the University of St. Thomas.

Scoreless through 90 minutes, the Pointers and Tommies went into extra time to determine the eventual winner. The Pointers held a 18-12 advantage in shots through regulation but could not find the back of the net off Tommie goalkeeper Allie Byron.

Liz Hunter (Stevens Point/SPASH) made just one save on the day for the Pointers in picking up the shutout victory.

The Pointers (12-1) return to action on Tuesday, Oct. 19 when they travel to Waukesha for another nonconference match-up, this time with the Pioneers of Carroll University. Game time is scheduled for 6 p.m.
