MENOMONIE – Jake Swank (Oregon/Oregon) connected with Anthony Aker (Milwaukee/Brown Deer) with 11:40 remaining in the fourth quarter to give the Pointers a 25-21 lead and then ran in the two point conversion, giving the UW-Stevens Point football team a 27-21 win over the Blue Devils of UW-Stout on Saturday afternoon.

The Blue Devils took the early lead on an eight yard Ross Carey pass to Craig Warminski midway through the opening quarter, capping a seven play, 54 yard drive.

The Pointers responded with a 13 play, 51 yards drive that stalled at the Blue Devils' eight yard line, but a #Jared Fohrman 30 yard field goal put the Pointers on the board, 7-3.

The Pointers opened the second quarter with a seven play drive that culminated in a four yard pitch-and-catch from Swank to Jared Jenkins (Milwaukee/Rufus King), putting the visiting Pointers in front 10-7.

Stout answered with another Carey pass, this time to Antawan Walker from 12 yards out, ending a six play, 66 yard drive and giving UW-Stout the lead once again, 14-10.

The Pointers answered with another drive that marched into the Blue Devils red zone, but the Stout defense held the Pointers to another field goal, as Fohrman connected from 31 yards out, closing the gap to just one, 14-13, heading into the halftime locker room.

In the third quarter, Swank threw his second touchdown pass of the day, this time finding Theo Maglio (Wautoma, WI/Wautoma) in the endzone on a 12 yard play, pushing the Pointers back in front, 19-14.

Stout retook the lead in the see-saw battle with 5:07 remaining in the third, when Carey again connected with Walker, this time from 26 yards out, making the scoreboard tilt in the Blue Devils favor once more, 21-19.

The Pointers marched down the field, aided by two big plays from Keith Ingram (Milwaukee, WI/Riverside) to set up a 30 yard pass from Swank to Aker, and Swank then ran in the two-point conversion try to give the Pointers a six point advantage, 27-21.

The Pointer defense, led by Joe Mleziva (Casco, WI/Luxemburg-Casco)'s 12 tackles, Matt Lunder (Waunakee/Waunakee)'s 10 and Peter Peterson (Pittsville/Pittsville)'s nine held the Blue Devils off for the final minutes, preserving the second conference victory of the season for the Pointers.

Swank finished the day 26-of-39 for 310 yards and three touchdowns. He also threw three interceptions. His counterpart Ross Carey finished the day 22-of-40 for 226 yards with three scores.

On the ground, Mike Griffin (Iola, WI/Iola-Scandinavia) finished with 12 carries for 35 yards while Ingram and Kyle Fuhrman (Reedsburg/Reedsburg) each finished with 34 and 28 yards, respectively.

Jenkins led all receivers with 10 catches totaling 96 yards and one touchdown. Aker finished the day with seven catches for 90 yards and the game-winning score. Stout's Patrick Mengelkoch finished the day with seven catches for 116 yards but was held without a score.
