STEVENS POINT - The Pointers improved to 10-3 overall, 3-2 in conference play on Saturday afternoon, defeating the Eagles of UW-La Crosse 88-76 behind four players scoring in double figures.
Seven ties and 10 lead changes marked a turbulent opening stanza, as the Pointers built leads of four points several times, but the Eagles had a counter for each time, tying or reclaiming the lead until the Pointers closed the half on a 6-2 run to take a four point edge, 38-34, into halftime.
The Pointers built a seven point lead in the first six minutes of the second half, their largest lead of the contest, only to see the Eagles answer with a 9-2 run, erasing the Pointer lead and tying the game at 53-53.
From there, the Pointer offense came alive, using a 17-5 run to open up a double-digit lead on the visitors and never looked back, as down the stretch La Crosse got no closer than eight, as UW-Stevens Point went on to the 88-76 conference victory.
Britta Petersen (Luck),
Cassie Bandow (Plover) and
Ashley Averkamp (New Berlin) each scored a team-high 16 points on the day while Petersen, Bandow and
